Private Residential Cottage · Monument Channel, Georgian Bay, ON · 2013
A year-round post-and-beam cottage of 2,125 sq ft, designed for his own family on a remote, access-by-water site on Monument Channel. Douglas fir does almost everything: exposed structural frame, ceiling decking, interior walls, cabinetry. Outside, cedar shingles and Ipe decking.
Floor-to-ceiling glass opens a 70-foot panoramic view over the Bay. The cottage is self-sufficient — solar panels, bio-filter septic — and every piece of material was barged in due to the access-only location.
Published in The Globe and Mail, National Post, Contemporist, and Inhabitat, the cottage generated three follow-on cottage commissions: two in Cognashene and one in Haliburton.
